Athens is the capital of Greece, a name given from the ancient goddess Athena as its protector. It is a huge urban city with 3.7 million residents, however attracting millions of visitors each year mainly cause of the unique archaeological wealth.

In Athens you can visit the ruins of ancient Athens, the principal city of ancient Greece. Visit the ancient Parthenon (World Heritage monument) at the top of Lycabettus Hill with the stunning new museum of Acropolis, the Erechtheion temple of the Caryatids, the Ancient Agora, the Temple of Hephaestus, the Museum of Cycladic Art, Benaki Museum, the Byzantine Museum, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Anafiotika, Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the picturesque Plaka area, Monastiraki market and many other attractions within walking distance of each other!

Also see the warm mineral lake Vouliagmeni, Lycabettus Hill panorama of the city, the temple of Athena Nike, the tower of the winds, the ancient cemetery of Kerameikos. For shopping visit the Kolonaki and Ermou Street, for entertainment at Psiri, and many other attractions, museums and squares.

The average temperature range from 10 degrees Celsius (50F) in January to 28 degrees (84F) during July and August. Tourism in Athens lasts mainly from May to October with peak months in July and August.

In Athens you can arrive by plane at the Eleftherios Venizelos airport or ferry to Piraeus.
